By Juliette Allen

August 18th, 2007

The summer is almost over and for many people that means a return to the stress of work and school. If you are looking for a way to prolong your summer bliss well into the Fall, then check out these upcoming events.

Ron NaVarre, an energetic healer, martial artist and founder of Stress Defense â Inc. will be teaching a series of workshops in San Miguel Allende from August 25th to August 31 st .

Kicking off the event, on Wednesday August 22 nd from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, Ron will be giving a free lecture Channeling Energy- Channeling Stress. [Channeling, says NaVarre, means expressing energy in a fluid way.] The location for the free lecture will be #3 Pila Seca courtyard between Hernandez Marcias and Zacateros.

The lecture will introduce you to the art of neutralizing stress, utilizing the internal principles of Tai Chi. According to Navarre, "Much of the internal pressure and stress from which we suffer can be alleviated by learning how to move our energy, also known as chi."   Tai chi (or Grand Energy) teaches one how to channel energy by learning how to soften, breathe and express chi . "The principles can be applied to any task or form and are as easy as breathing and focusing", he continued.   "This simple practice has had a profound effect on my life and the lives of hundreds of my students."

Jessica Chazen, actress and former student, had this to say " After studying with Ron, I feel as though I can breathe my way though any situation.

On August 25 th and 26 th from 11am to 2 pm, Ron will teach a Yoga workshop entitled Clearing the Emotional Body . "This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in the role emotion plays in physical health, physical limitations and Yoga practice", he says.   "Feelings are a form of energy that can create physical tension when held too tightly in the body."

The Open-heart Yoga, developed by NaVarre, is a safe way to gently cleanse the body of excess emotional energy through breath, movement and sound. States NaVarre, "It is like an internal massage that leaves one feeling calm, clear and energized". The two-day session is open to all levels.

On August 27 th , 28 th & 29 th from 11am-2pm discover the power of Tai Chi. This ancient Chinese art form often described as a "moving meditation" is characterized by its slow gentle movement emphasizing fluidity, grace and harmony.   NaVarre, who has been practicing Tai Chi for over twenty years, says, "Tai Chi is actually a martial art that has evolved into a health practice."   According to NaVarre, "As a martial art, Tai Chi is the most sophisticated and takes the longest to master. As a health practice, it has numerous benefits that have been documented in medical studies worldwide. The essence of Tai Chi is fluidity of mind, body and energy, by breathing and moving fluidly, physical tension, anxiety and stress seem to dissolve. In addition, Tai Chi teaches us how to ground, center and balance our energies for healing or self-defense".

The final workshop in the series fill be offered on August 30 th & 31 st and is entitled Connecting to Heaven and Earth/ Cultivating Energy for Health and Longevity with Qi Qong .   Qi Qong (pronounced Chee Gong ) means "energy practice" or "breath-work" and is regarded as a medical practice in China.   Qi Qong combines breathing, movement and standing meditation to cultivate inner strength and longevity.   Qi Qong masters have been known to live well into the hundreds and even casual students of the practice espouse the benefits of greater physical energy and emotional balance.   Says NaVarre "I teach Qi Qong to cancer patients, people with ADHD, anxiety, chronic fatigue and to a host of doctors, psychologists and business professionals who use this practice to balance their hectic lives.   Many of my students have reported remarkable changes in their overall health and energy levels as well as improved self-esteem and emotional outlook."   He adds "Qi Qong is simple and easy to learn and can be practiced anywhere and requires very little space."

Another of NaVarre's students, Jan Eric Douglas, Phd., from New York City, says "Qi Qong brings the body deeper and deeper into a state of well being, one of continuing salutary effect. It works and has become an essential part of my daily regimen."

Tobias Gebb, musician and client, states "I've suffered from an anxiety/panic disorder for about 12 years. I've tried every medication on the market to treat this disorder, to no avail.   Qi Qong was the only thing that eased my suffering.   I can happily say that I rarely, if ever, have anxiety or panic attacks thanks to the Qi Qong method I learned from Ron."

Don't miss this rare opportunity to study with gifted healer / teacher, Ron NaVarre.   Workshop fees range from 550p for a one-day session, to 2500p for the whole week. Space is limited and all levels are welcome, regardless of age or experience. Registration is required and open to all.

Ron NaVarre, a Tai Chi teacher and creator of Stress Defense, an Individual and corporate stress management program, has actually had to turn down taking on any more classes, simply because he cannot find time in his busy schedule. He currently teaches at New York Sports Club, Bally’s Vertical Club, Fordham University and takes on private clients.

Mr. NaVarre says, "It's very important to find a teacher who can communicate in a simple way, to make it understandable, practical and easily accessible to his students." The Tai Chi students at the Vertical Club where I took the class were enthusiastic and eager to learn, to improve and to find the moments of grace that are the hallmark of this fitness regimen. Ted Hewlett, a regular student of Mr. NaVarre is very enthusiastic about his teacher. "I've had the good fortune to study under Ron in such disciplines as yoga, martial arts and street self-defense. His knowledge on a wide range of topics is the highest caliber and very impressive. As a teacher, Ron is compassionate and adaptable to the needs of his students."

"Ron has been me and my family's massage therapist, Tai Chi instructor, advisor, teacher. Perhaps the umbrella word to describe his many talents is as 'healer.' I wish there were more Ron Navarre's in this world. I believe he reflects the best of what people can become if we gathered around and integrated in us his approach to living that he embodies," says Sandra Mann, Ph.D. Individual and Family Therapist, I was invited to take a class with Mr. NaVarre earlier this year and found his style of teaching informative, easy going and fortified with insight and steady guidance.
